I also look for programs that have monthly memberships so you earn month after month.
Also, use a url cloaker to disguise your affiliate url. Folks will remove your affiliate id and purchase the product knocking you out of a commission. I like Viralurl because it holds your cloak in place even when a prospect lands on your site. You can do a Yahoo search for url cloakers.
Next decide on a traffic source. There are ways to drive free traffic like article marketing, blogs, review sites or paid traffic like pay per click (ppc).
